Alen Baker

Initiated the vision for the Fly Fishing Museum of the Southern Appalachians and has recruited ongoing support (pledges, volunteer hours and content initiatives) from all southeastern states.

Alen recently served the NC Wildlife Federation Board for 10 years. He facilitated the restructuring of NCWF By-Laws and a return to 501c3 IRS status. He is a life Member of NCWF, a member of the Charlie Shaw Society and past Chairman of the Board of NCWF. As Chair, he received the 2010 NWF National Affiliate of the Year Award.

Alen has served as a volunteer leader in Trout Unlimited for over 30 years. As President, he received the 1986 Gold Chapter Award for the TU Charlotte Rocky River Chapter. He served as TU State Council Director, TU Southeast Region VP and TU National VP and as Co-chair for the national restructuring of Trout Unlimited in the mid-90s.

Alen recently retired after 34 years of service from Duke Energy North America/Duke Energy International where he was Senior Director of Information Technology, responsible for world-wide IT operations.

Alen currently serves as Vice-Chair and Conservation Committee Chair for NC Trout Unlimited. In September, NCTU was awarded the 2013 NCWF Affiliate of the Year.

He is a self-published author of his first book The First Twenty Five Years, published in 2006 to capture the rich history of his local fly fishing group in Charlotte. He has a passion for the enduring history of trout fishing and fly fishing in the Southern Appalachians.

Alen is an avid fly fisher and fly tyer. He has fished over a dozen states and as far away as Tasmania for trout.. He has traveled to Nova Scotia for Atlantic salmon but overall prefers Southern Appalachian fly fishing for trout. Alen enjoys any fly fishing from coldwater to saltwater.
